Bristol Animal Rescue Centre is excited to announce a significant update to its adoption guidelines, aimed at making the process more accessible for potential adopters while continuing to prioritize the well-being of the animals in their care.

“At Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, our mission is to give every pet a chance to find a loving home,” said Lee Coombs, Animal Home Assistant Manager. “By making our adoption criteria more flexible, we hope to create opportunities for more families and individuals to welcome a rescue animal into their lives.”

Highlights of the Updated Adoption Guidelines:

  • Flexible Exercise Area Requirements: Rather than requiring direct ground floor access to a secure, private garden, adopters now need access to an exercise area and safe walking routes suited to the individual dog’s needs.
  • Case-by-Case Alone Time Solutions: While dogs should not be left alone for more than four hours a day, Bristol Animal Rescue Centre will now consider arrangements such as dog walkers or daycare setups on a case-by-case basis.
  • Maintained Safeguards for Adopters and Animals: Important steps, such as landlord permission for renters, up-to-date vaccinations for other pets, and compatibility checks with household members and existing pets, remain integral to the adoption process.

These changes are designed to help more people explore adoption while ensuring that each animal’s individual needs are met. Detailed requirements for specific pets will continue to be listed on their profile pages, providing clear guidance for potential adopters.

“We are thrilled to make these changes and to see how they will help more animals find their forever homes,” said Lee. “Our goal is to match every dog with the right family, and these updates allow us to do so while supporting a wider range of adopters. We know that everyone’s family setup is as unique as our animals here; so if people really connect with a pet it’s worth giving us a call to discuss.”.
