About Bristol A.R.C.

As Bristol’s largest and oldest animal charity, Bristol A.R.C. has served as the city’s main rescue centre for over a century, helping countless animals in need. In addition to our comprehensive animal care and rehoming services, we proudly hold the stray dog contract with Bristol City Council, working tirelessly to provide a safe haven for Bristol’s strays.

Although affiliated with the RSPCA, we are entirely self-funded, relying on the generosity of our community, from individuals to business supporters, to continue our vital work.

The Need

The cost of living crisis has put immense pressure on our resources, and our services are in more demand than ever. Abandonments and neglect cases have surged, and we’ve seen a 12.4% rise in animals needing our care this year alone. Many of these animals are arriving in worse condition than before, requiring extensive, often longterm veterinary and behavioral support. As a result, their average stay has significantly increased, adding to the challenge of providing them with the care they deserve.

What are unrestricted donations and why are they so important?

Unrestricted donations are crucial in helping us respond to the growing need of our rescue centre. Unlike
restricted funds, which are designated for specific projects, unrestricted donations offer:

• Flexibility – Unrestricted funds allow us to respond quickly to urgent and unexpected challenges, ensuring resources are available when and where they’re needed most.
• Operational Stability – As operational costs surge, unrestricted donations keep our lights on, our staff paid, and our centre functioning, allowing us to focus on helping every animal in need.
• Long-Term Planning – These funds give us the ability to look ahead, plan sustainably, and make strategic decisions that strengthen our future.
