Christmas may bring joy, but Bristol Animal Rescue Centre’s mission to rehome animals doesn’t take a break. Pets still need care, warmth, and love, making community support vital. The team work hard over the Christmas period reviewing applications ensuring all pets are going to the best fitting forever home, organising meets and of course caring for those that anticipate spending Christmas in their care.
Some of those that are likely to be spending Christmas at the city centre based rescue include Meela, Igor, Dennis and Sandy.
Meela, a 3 year old lurcher is a ball of energy and would work well in a home that wanted to try dog sports, agility, scent work, higher level obedience etc. As she is really switched on, clever and loves to work! She has been at Bristol A.R.C. since August so it’s about time this loving girl got the family she’s been waiting for!
Igor is a handsome, 5 year old german shepherd looking for a rural or semi rural home. He was found in Dundry almost 3 months ago and has spent his time at Bristol A.R.C. enjoying treats and throwing toys around! He could be placed with another similar sized dog.
Dennis, a 3 year old mastiff that’s been at Bristol A.R.C. since June. He hasn’t just been waiting though, the team have been working very hard on training and building calm confidence. He’s a strong boy weighing in at 43 kg so would do best with someone with experience of large dogs. A real gentle giant; he’s looking for a comfy sofa to chill on.
Sandy has been at Bristol A.R.C. for 5 months. While in their care, Sandy has undergone face & soft palate surgery to help with breathing issues that Frenchies can commonly struggle with. She is now fully recovered and enjoying a new lease of life while she waits for her forever home. Sandy is looking for a comfy sofa to relax and cuddle.
‘Whilst we certainly don’t encourage welcoming a new animal into your home at Christmas time, we still actively seek applications for animals in our care, as we would any other time of the year.’ Said Jodie Hayward, Animal Home Manager at Bristol A.R.C.. ‘All applications get reviewed by our experts to find the perfect matches for our pets, it’s a very considered process that happens all year round!’
If you’re looking to fill a dog shaped hole in your life check out the Bristol Animal Rescue Centre website and complete the application form.
