Here at Bristol A.R.C. we completely understand that circumstances can change and that for many of us life rarely works out the way we planned it. We know that having to give up a much loved family pet is a hard decision for you to have to make.
We are not here to judge, like you we only have the animal’s best interests at heart. It is our mission to provide the best possible care for Bristol’s animals in need, and we are here to help you make the best decision for your pet.
Before bringing your animal in, it is essential to contact us first as we operate a waiting list to prioritise those animals most in need. We may not be able to take your pet in straight away due to our waiting list, and the space that we have available at any given time. We may also be able to give advice on managing the issue that has led you to considering rehoming – whatever the situation please don’t hesitate to call us.
If you think you may need to give your pet up for adoption please call us first on the number provided below.

What happens if I need to give up my pet?
We ask, in the first instance, that you call and speak to our Rehoming Team. They will need to take some details from you about your pet and your situation (e.g. why you need to rehome your pet).
Once you have spoken to our Rehoming Team, and if we decide together that rehoming your pet with us is the best thing to do, your pet will be placed on our waiting list. We’ll contact you as soon as a space has become available and we are able to take your pet in to our care.
When you bring your pet in to rehome them you will be asked to complete our sign over form, please note that this is a legal document which transfers the ownership of the pet to Bristol Animal Rescue Centre.
Our Rehoming Team will talk you through this process and answer any questions you may have when you call and speak to us.
All animals who come in to Bristol A.R.C. receive the highest level of care as we prepare and help them to find a new home.
We do kindly ask that if you’re in a position to do so, to please consider making a donation to help us with the costs of caring for your pet as we help them to find a new home. Our suggested donation amount varies depending on the species of your pet as follows:
Dogs - £30
Cats - £20
Small animals - £10
We are of course grateful for any amount above and beyond this that you are able to make.
What to expect when you call us
When you call us we’ll need to know some information about your pet, such as, their behavioural traits, likes and dislikes, their age and medical history. The more we know the easier it will be to swiftly find your pet a new loving home, and to make their transition into our care as stress free as possible. We understand what a difficult call this could be for you, our staff will listen without judgement and will help you make the right decision for your pet.
