There are several different types of ways that you can leave us a gift:
- Leave a share of your assets, also known as a ‘residuary gift’
- Leave a fixed sum of money, also known as a ‘pecuniary gift’
- Changing your Will
Many people choose to leave us a percentage of what is left of their assets - known as their 'estate' after they ensure that their family and loved ones have been taken care of. This type of gift is known as a residuary gift and is easy to add to an existing Will without interfering with any specific sums you have left to family or friends. In the long run, this type of gift will probably hold its value best.
Suggested wording to use to leave a residuary gift:
I leave my xx / xx share(s) of my residuary estate for Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, 48 – 50 Albert Road, St. Philips. Bristol, BS2 0XA, registered charity number 205858 (England and Wales), absolutely for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer, for the time being, shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
Suggested wording to use to leave a pecuniary gift:
I give free of inheritance tax £xx to Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, 48 - 50 Albert Road, St Philips, Bristol, BS2 0XA, registered charity numbers 205858 (England and Wales) for its general charitable purposes and I declare that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer for the time being shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
The easiest way to make a change to your Will is to use a Codicil (which is an additional instruction that you can add to your existing Will). A SRA registered solicitor will be able to advise you of the best way to do this, depending on your circumstances.
To ensure your gift comes to Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, you will need to provide the following information to your solicitor (or include it in your Will):
Our registered charity name: Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (the legal working name for RSPCA Bristol and District Branch and Bristol Dogs and Cats Home).
Our registered address: 48 – 50 Albert Road, St Philips, Bristol BS2 0XA
Our Registered Charity Number: 205858
