Dearest supporters, meet Dorothy! She is a lovely Bulldog that enjoys attention, cuddles and a nice long snooze.
Dorothy has been with us since January this year, when she was brought in as a stray.
But sadly Dorothy needs your help as she is suffering from two different eye conditions called Cherry Eye and Distichiasis.
What is Cherry Eye? Cherry eye is when a dogs tear gland inside the third eyelid ‘pops out’ and becomes painful as the gland quickly becomes red, angry and sore.
What is Distichiasis? Distichiasis is a common condition in dogs where eyelashes develop in an abnormal location, emerging from the eyelid margin rather than the eyelid skin. Which sometimes causes irritation and discomfort.
Dorothy needs at least two operations to treat her poorly eyes, as with most treatments and operations there are no guarantees that the operations will work, but they will provide her with the best chance at a life without daily discomfort.
Our friends at Rowe Vets have offered to do one of the specialist operations for a subsidised fee, but we still need to raise at least £1500 to help cover the costs of Dorothy’s operations and additional medical care (we have set our target higher as the final costs are as yet unknown, we won’t know until she has had the operation whether she needs further treatment, or what it could cost).
If we are lucky enough to raise more than our target, or more than the costs of the surgery and treatments, any additional funds will go towards helping the other animals at our centre.
So please, if you are able, donate anything you can by clicking the donate button on the post about Dorothy on Facebook, or to give £5 text ‘DOROTHY’ to 70450 (please see notes at the bottom for details about text to donate). If you want to donate via our website, please be sure to clearly specify that it is intended for Dorothy’s treatment so we can make sure it gets to her.
We’re pretty sure that many of you will fall in love with Dorothy and will be keen to offer her a home, and we look forward to her being home ready! Please bear in mind that she won’t be available for rehoming until she has fully recovered, and we’re open to the public again, we’ll update our website and social media as soon as we are able to rehome animals again, so please keep an eye on those channels for further details rather than calling our rehoming team, as we are still working with a reduced staff team during this time.
From all of the humans at Bristol A.R.C. and Dorothy of course, thank you.
